Silence is goal-den
The Carling Premiership title race is over bar the shouting — but there’s no singing from the Windsor Park rooftops.
Linfield’s 1-0 win over Cliftonville yesterday means that only goal difference can deny the Blues from marking their 125th anniversary with a 50th title triumph and the win kept them on course for a fifth league and cup double in six years.
David Jeffrey’s men are currently 24 strikes better off than nearest challengers Crusaders but the Linfield boss refused to permit any premature celebrations.
None of his players dared to even mention winning the Gibson Cup until the title has been mathematically secured.
A guarded Jeffrey admitted: “We are in a fantastic position and I appreciate it will take a miraculous turnaround to deny us. We go to Distillery on Tuesday and we’ll be aiming for another three points. Hopefully that will see us home.”
