Glentoran are closing in on signing former Northern Ireland and Manchester United defender Luke McCullough.

Centre-back McCullough, who was in Michael O'Neill's squad at the Euro 2016 Finals in France, has been a free agent after leaving Tranmere Rovers following their relegation from League One.

The 26-year-old started his career in England with United before spending six years at Doncaster Rovers, where he made 99 appearances.

Glentoran hope to announce McCullough's capture following this week's Irish Cup commitments.

McCullough is likely to be joined at The Oval by Derry City's attacking midfielder Jamie McDonagh and Institute goalkeeper Rory Brown - all of whom are being offered two-year deals - as manager Mick McDermott looks to strengthen his squad ahead of the new season which could begin in September, provided the Northern Ireland Executive give the green light.
