Gary Hillis had a stop-start career in the Irish League

Born and brought up in the heart of east Belfast, Gary Hillis had only one team on his wish list when he emerged on the Irish League scene back in 1985.

He was one of a posse of footballers that progressed from Ashfield School to wear the famous red, green and black of Glentoran — Alan Paterson, Ron McCreery, Barney Bowers, Raymond Morrison, Tommy Leeman, Alan Harrison, Andy Kirk, Justin McBride, Paul Leeman and Stuart Elliott to name but a few.
