Lee Johnston maintained his impressive start to the British Supersport Championship with another podium finish at Knockhill in Scotland.

The Fermanagh man was third in race two at Oulton Park last month and Johnston repeated the result again yesterday.

Riding the Ashcourt Racing Yamaha, the Supersport TT winner rounded out the top three as he finished just over a second behind race winner Bradley Perie (Appleyard Macadam Yamaha), who held off Dublin’s Jack Kennedy on the Bournemouth Kawasaki to take the honours in the Sprint race.

Eunan McGlinchey from Aghadowey finished eighth on the Gearlink Kawasaki, while fellow young Northern Ireland rider Scott Swann was 12th on the IFS Team Swann Racing Yamaha ahead of Rhys Irwin from Donegal.

In the Bennetts British Superbike class, there was disappointment for Carrickfergus man Glenn Irwin, who could only manage 12th place on the Honda Racing Fireblade after qualifying 11th on the fourth row of the grid.

Irwin has slipped one place to 10th in the Championship standings ahead of today’s two BSB races (1.30pm and 4.30pm).

His younger brother Andrew also struggled, finishing 15th.
