Tragic Higgy's last regret

Lonely Alex Higgins told in his dying days how he was riddled with regret over a “petty” family row.

During his last-ever interview, with this newspaper in May, the Hurricane said he was “heartbroken” he had battled his eldest sister Isobel for ownership of a tiny family heirloom — and blamed himself for the bitter argument.

Hunched in his darkened Belfast flat just 11 weeks ago, frail Higgins told us they had argued over who had most rights to a ring that belonged to their mum Elizabeth.

He said the argument first flared in 2008 when he visited Isobel at her home in Australia. And he revealed that he believed their relationship had never fully recovered from the strain of the argument.
