Victims are gang-raped as soon as they arrive

Sex-trafficking in Northern Ireland is spiralling out of control, a respected Stormont Assemblywoman has warned.

Hong Kong-born Alliance MLA Anna Lo last night called on the authorities to do more to support victims after being presented with details of Sunday Life's Thai brothel investigation.

She explained how earlier this year two desperate Asian women called into her south Belfast office begging for her help.

The girls confessed they had been forced to work as sex slaves after being lured to Northern Ireland on the promise of jobs.

Mrs Lo says that since then she has uncovered horrific and disturbing evidence of prostitutes being gang-raped by their pimps.

“Sex trafficking is the third most profitable international crime, only weapons importation and drugs smuggling make more money,” said Mrs Lo.
