Victorious Ulster coach Brian McLaughlin is eyeing a dream Heineken European Cup quarter-final against rivals Leinster in Dublin.
McLaughlin’s team steam-rollered their way into today’s last-eight draw with a 43-6 victory over Aironi in Northern Italy yesterday.
That secured Ulster’s place in Europe’s knockout stages for the first time since they famously won the tournament back in 1999.
Asked for his choice of quarter-finals opponents in April, delighted McLaughlin responded: “Leinster at the Aviva Stadium would be the icing on the cake.”
His side can only be handed an away draw as one of two second place qualifiers from the six groups, after Biarritz beat Bath to clinch top spot in Ulster’s pool.
