Tele Recommends: Northern Ireland's best club nights
We've consulted the experts to bring you the best Northern Ireland has to offer - the places, the food, the music, the craic.
Joe Lindsay is a DJ, television presenter and radio host. He has appeared at nightclubs all over Belfast and beyond and regularly hosts club night Palookaville at the Oh Yeah Music Centre, currently in its fifth year.
Asked to name Northern Ireland's five best club nights, he recommends...
Every Saturday in McHugh's Basement. This is one of the longest running clubs in Belfast for a reason. It features a great mix of genres, a musically well-sussed crowd, and brilliant venue. Joe Dougan is, in my opinion, the most underrated DJ in Belfast, plus Documenta's Joe Greene DJing, proving beyond a shadow of a doubt that Radio K is not ageist!
Each month at the Queen's University Students’ Union. This is Electronica for the faithful and it always goes off big-time! Great resident DJs, impressive guests and a proper sweatbox of a club night.
Monthly at the Menagerie
DJ Ryan Fitzsimmons presents live music and fine records of the more rockabilly, garage punk, psyche persuasion. One of the best venues in town playing host to a bequiffed and passionate crowd. Get in early as it is always packed.
The Garrick Bar every Friday. Chris Caul, DJ O-One, Kenny Mathieson. I'm being unashamedly biased here because I know and love the lads so much, but facts are facts, they are three of the greatest DJs I have ever seen. Unpredictable playlists, turntable skills par excellence and the greatest attitude to DJing. Just all-out beats and fun.
Every Thursday at the Limelight. Admittedly, I am too old to go there now (sorry Rigsy), but this is the clubnight to rule all. This legendary club night has big all-out party tunes played by DJs who love music and clubbing and know how to do both.
