Theo Walcott
The Arsenal and England winger recently launched the first in a series of children's books. Aimed at 9-11 year olds, the books will follow lead character TJ, mirroring Walcott's own experiences as a late bloomer in junior football. Walcott follows in the steps of David Beckham, who released a three-part children's series last year.

Steven Gerrard
Liverpool ace Stevie G will be dreaming of celebrating an England World Cup win back at home in his very own restaurant. But if he does don't expect Hollywood A-listers and Planet Hollywood - the midfielder bought into The Warehouse Brasserie in Southport.

Rio Ferdinand
England captain Rio Ferdinand joined forces with international team-mate Ashley Cole as they turned executive producers on Brit flick Dead Man Running last year. Starring rapper 50 Cent, the gangster movie was right up Ferdinand's alley. "I like going to the cinema," he said. "My favourite films are Silence of the Lambs, Scarface and The Godfather".

Andy Cole
Numerous footballers have tried their hand at the singing game - usually as part of awful FA Cup songs - but some have gone for it a bit more seriously. In 1999, former Manchester United striker Andy Cole rapped on a cover of The Gap Band's "Outstanding". It wasn't, and it sank without trace.

Troy Perkins
If there was ever an argument that the MLS is not a league of the highest calibre this is it. As recently as 2006, DC United goalkeeper and a pick for the MLS all-star team was also a mortgage loan processor. Memorably, DCs fans would greet him with the banner: "Troy saves - and loan".

Socrates
If a footballer has an O-level to his name, he might find himself jovially referred to as 'The Professor' by his team-mates. But for Brazil legend Socrates, he truly was a man of great intelligence. The midfielder (who once turned out for Garforth Town) is a doctor of medicine, a degree he achieved while concurrently playing professional football.

Kevin Moran
Former Manchester United and Ireland star Kevin Moran was another footballer with more than one thing on his mind. Before playing for United, he studied at University College Dublin and spent a year as an accountant. His unconventional history prior to playing professionally helped him out come retirement, in which he set up the successful football agency Proactive Sports Management.

Terry Venables
Maybe 'El Tel' caught the nightclub vibe during his time in Barcelona, as the former England manager bought nightclub Scribes West in Kensington. Business wise Venables wasn't as successful as the likes of Moran. He was banned from holding company directorships for seven years by the High Court in 1998 following the mismanagement of his various companies.

Vinnie Jones
Vinnie Jones converted his hard man image from his Wimbledon 'Crazy Gang' days onto the silver screen. He made his acting debut as a violent but well mannered debt collector in the hit film Lock Stock and has since gone on to appear in numerous big budget Hollywood movies.

Eric Cantona
The Manchester United legend has been very busy since hanging up the famous No 7 shirt. He's appeared on the stage and in the movies, and most surprisingly of all in the literary world with his collection of poems. During his playing days he was only too happy to show off his way with words with the media, as his 'When the seagulls follow the trawler' speech proved.

Stuart Pearce
'Psycho' was a trained electrician when he was signed up by Nottingham Forest. Famously, he advertised his services in the match day programme.

Steve Savidan
French footballer Steve Savidan would go on to play for his national team (admittedly only once) which must have felt a far cry from his earlier playing days. The striker, while playing part-time for Angouleme, worked as a bin-man to supplement his income.

Geoff Horsfield
Former Fulham hero Geoff Horsfield was a late comer to the top leagues in England, and as such had been keeping himself busy before he turned professional full-time. While playing in the Conference, he also worked in the building trade as a brick-layer.
