Paralysed mother undergoes two years of rehab and surgery to be able to hug children

A mum will be celebrating the first anniversary of the best hug she has ever had next month: when she wrapped her arms around her children for the first time after breaking her neck in a terrifying riding accident. Within seconds of falling from her horse and shattering a crucial vertebra, Sarah Wilson, 35, was paralysed. Enduring gruelling surgery and months of intensive rehabilitation, her greatest goal was to cuddle Logan, eight, Seth, six, and Isla, three, once more. So, in January 2020, she agreed to an eight-hour surgery, grafting together two major muscles on her left arm which had extremely limited movement - finally celebrating her longed-for embrace back at home after being discharged in early March.
