Sturgeon advises Scottish workers to avoid Christmas parties as omicron variant 'runs riot'

Scotland's First Minister Nicola Sturgeon has advised people to defer work Christmas parties, as she warned the Omicron variant of coronavirus would "run riot" through the population. Ms Sturgeon also announced that from Saturday, household contacts of anyone who tests positive for Covid-19 should isolate for 10 days, regardless of their vaccination status, and even if they receive a negative PCR test result. The First Minister added advice might change "very quickly" before Christmas due to the Omicron variant's rapid spread, noting infections are likely to be doubling every two days soon unless measures are taken to prevent its spread.
