Video: Arts Council of Northern Ireland call for more investment from Stormont

The Arts Council of Northern Ireland today (Wed) urged the new Stormont department - which will take over responsibility for the arts following next month's re-election of MLAs - to make re-investment in the sector a priority.

Bob Collins, chairman of the ACNI, was talking at a board meeting in Co Down after the announcement that the council is expecting its budget for 2016-17 to be reduced by almost 6%.

"We think that the new Department for the Communities has a lot of potential.

"My real appeal to the new minister, whoever that may be - and to the Executive - is that they begin re-investing in the arts - not for us, not for any individual or arts organisation, but for the people of Northern Ireland, because everyone has an investment in the arts," he said
