Video: Drone sparks violence at Albania-Serbia Euro 2016 qualifying match

A politically tense Euro 2016 qualifying game between Serbia and Albania was abandoned on October 14 following a mass brawl involving players and fans. The violence was sparked when a drone carrying an Albanian flag and a map showing Kosovo as part of “Greater Albania” was flown over Belgrade’s Partizan Stadium. Riot police moved in when around a dozen fans invaded the pitch and attacked Albania players. Referee Martin Atkinson suspended play and UEFA subsequently confirmed the match had been abandoned. The European Championship qualifier was the first time the two countries had met on a soccer pitch since Yugoslavia disintegrated in the bloody inter-ethnic war of the 1990s. The drone and subsequent pitch invasion can be seen in this video. Credit: YouTube/Oliver Urlic
