East Belfast DUP MLA Sammy Douglas left the Assembly for the last time on Wednesday - saying it had just become too stressful for him in recent months.
"I came back into the Assembly full of optimism and hope. Things had been improving but a number of months ago things just went sour for one reason of another," he said.
"Over these last few months I have found it very stressful. Every day there was something else.
"In the past I have had mental health problems in terms of stress and ended up in hospital a few years ago.
"But looking back I have no regrets. I have been involved in a lot of community regeneration so I am going to go back to that."
