A local politician today paid tribute to Greenisland murder victim Eddie Girvan.
Alliance MLA Stewart Dickson knew the 67-year-old since the pair of them attended the same primary school.
Mr Girvan, who lived alone, was found dead in his home by police on Monday evening.
He had been tied to a chair and stabbed to death.
"I have know Eddie for virtually all of my life. He was just ahead of me in primary school and I also knew him through the Boys' Brigade.
"I have known him as someone who has lived in the Greenisland community for a lifetime.
"Lots of people will know Eddie as he did lots of handyman jobs for them in their homes. He was always available to people in the community," he said.
Mr Dickson said he was finding it difficult to comprehend the horrific circumstances in which Mr Girvan met his death.
"It is a totally sad incident which has brought a great deal of concern to his neighbours and to the community - but my heart goes out to his family and wider family circle at this very difficult time," he added.
