Video: Footage of sun's shifting plasma

This video, taken at 20:20 GMT on April 29, shows common solar activity which has been possible to film only since NASA’s Solar Dynamics Observatory began operation four years ago. According to NASA’s description: A small, hovering mass of twisted strands of plasma shifted back and forth before erupting into space over a period of just one day (April 29-30). The plasma appears darker only because it is somewhat cooler than the surrounding material when viewed in extreme ultraviolet light. The suspended plasma is being pulled and stretched by competing magnetic forces until something triggers the breakaway. Credit: NASA Solar Dynamics Observatory
