Video: Giant iceberg breaks off the Pine Island glacier

A giant iceberg over 20 miles long was formed when a crack formed in Antarctica’s Pine Island Glacier. The crack discovered in October 2011, widened until the iceberg separated from the shelf in early November 2013. The glacier has formed an ice island, named B31, and is predicted to be swept up in the currents of the Southern Ocean. This time lapse videos shows the progress of B31 as it moves into the Amundsen Sea and the surrounding ice. Credit: Youtube/NASA Earth Observatory
