Video: Gran Fondo - Cookstown man Keith Murphy an inspiration to leukaemia sufferers

By Gary Grattan

Cookstown man Keith Murphy - who finished runner-up in the Strangford circuit of the Gran Fondo - told of how he had been diagnosed with leukaemia in January of this year.

Keith finished the 58k course in just under two hours.

And several weeks ago he also completed the gruelling Iron Man challenge in Lanzarote.

"I have just taken the bull by the horns since I had my diagnosis and have done a lot of training - cycling, running and swimming.

"The Iron Man challenge was my big goal, my mindset, after my diagnosis.

"I saw a lot of people who didn't come through leukaemia when I was having my treatment - but I am prepared to fight and push on to hopefully give other people inspiration that there can be a future after such a serious diagnosis," he said.
