Video: Islamic state media branch releases 'The end of Sykes-Picot'

English-language footage was released on June 29 by a media account associated with the Islamic State (IS), formerly the Islamic State of Iraq and the Levant (ISIL/ISIS), calling for further destruction of the border between Iraq and Syria. This footage, entitled The End of Sykes-Picot, and posted by the IS-affiliated Al Hayat, was released the same day that a new “caliphate” was announced by the group. A man, identified by IS as from Chile, speaks of the dissolution of the border between Syria and Iraq. The title, The End of Sykes-Picot, references the 1916 agreement between France and Britain that split up the Arab provinces of the Ottoman Empire after World War I. Credit: Al Hayat Media Center
