Labour leadership challenger Jeremy Corbyn wants to see equality legislation extended to all parts of the UK. He was speaking at a political debate in West Belfast last night organised as part of the area's Community Festival.
"That is my position. I feel very strongly about that. I realise there are sensitivities and that people don't always agree with that.
"But I think if you are engaged in an open and honest debate you can make progress on it," he told a packed assembly hall at St Louise's Comprehensive School.
Mr Corbyn repeated his stance on gay marriage.
"I support it and I was very proud when it finally went through Parliament," he said.
