Former Deputy First Minister Martin McGuinness has spoken publicly about his "real friendship" with Ian Paisley "which lasted until the day he died."
Speaking at Parliament Buildings at a Press conference to announce Michelle O'Neill as his successor as the leader of Sinn Fein north of the border, Mr McGuinness said:
"I have very fond memories of working with Ian Paisley for that year he was in office - not only of building a positive working relationship with him...
"But we actually built a real friendship which lasted until the day he died."
Mr McGuinness also thanked Ian Paisley Jnr, his brother Kyle and Ian Paisley Snr's widow Eileen for their comments about his decision to step down from electoral politics due to ill-health.
