Video: PSNI launches scheme to help retailers combat shoplifting

The Police Service of Northern Ireland launched Safe Shop Scheme on Wednesday 26 August after a 10% rise of shop lifting in Northern Ireland over the last few years.

The Safe Shop Scheme provides shop managers and staff with information on techniques used by shoplifters and also explains the law, so they can keep themselves and the public safe.

Temporary Assistant Chief Constable, Chris Noble said: “Locally, whilst overall crime has in general being falling over the last ten years the number of shoplifting offences has been increasing. Shoplifting now accounts for 6.5% of all recorded crime in Northern Ireland and a quarter of all theft offences.”
