Two men had to be airlifted to safety in the early hours of Wednesday morning after a 45ft Canadian yacht got into difficulty off the Donegal coast.
The vessel ran aground at St. John’s Point after turbulent weather conditions forced the yacht onto some reefs.
When the Arranmore RNLI arrived at the scene, the yacht was filling up with water.
The rescue was launched at 4.15am following a request from the Irish Coast Guard.
A lifeboat with six crew on board made its way to the scene but the weather conditions made it difficult for the boat to get close to the sailors.
As a result, the Coast Guard’s rescue helicopter was summoned from Sligo and the two men were airlifted to safety.
