Video: Scotland's First Minister, Nicola Sturgeon, releases message to mark legalisation of same-sex marriage

Scotland’s First Minister Nicola Sturgeon released a video statement ahead of the country’s first same-sex weddings that took place at midnight on New Year’s Eve. The first weddings were held at 12:01 am local time on New Year’s Eve, known as Hogmanay in Scotland, according to reports. “Back in February, after a long process of consultation and legislation, the Scottish Parliament voted overwhelmingly to legalise same-sex marriage in Scotland. That was a very special moment. It’s a moment that will live long in my memory,” said Sturgeon. This video features Sturgeon’s remarks on December 30. Credit: YouTube/Equality Network
