SDLP MLA Claire Hanna said on Wednesday the NI electorate were going to the polls with "a big hole in local governance."
The South Belfast Assembly member - who is seeking re-election in March - said: "So many ends have not been tied up."
"I very much hope we can get back here after the election. I just don't see what we've to gain from a long period of talks - and meanwhile our problems like the lack of a budget, like the lack of a Brexitt plan, continue.
"I want to hopefully be re-elected and be back here doing the business we are supposed to be doing," she said.
