The Irish language is a shared treasure for everyone, Sinn Fein’s South Belfast general election candidate Mairtin O’Muilleoir has insisted.
He was speaking at a balloon launch at An Culturlann on the Falls Road organised in support of this Saturday’s An La Dearg march from the cultural centre to Belfast City Hall.
Mr O’Muilleoir - who was joined by Paul Maskey and Mired O’Donnell (SF’s candidates in West and East Belfast) - predicted several thousand people would be taking part in the march.
“In the Good Friday Agreement in 1998 it said there would be “resolute action to promote the Irish language. An Act was promised at St Andrew’s for sure but it has never been delivered because of the DUP and the British government.”
