A west Belfast MLA is calling for a public awareness campaign on the dangers of scrambler and quad bikes, after a mum of three died on Wednesday night having being hit by one while out walking her dog.
Valerie Armstrong was hit by a scrambler bike in Colin Glen Forest Park in West Belfast, a 17-year-old male has been charged in connection with the incident.
Sinn Fein MLA Jennifer McCann said: “We are appealing directly to parents not to be buying these scrambler and quad bikes.”
She added: “If you have already bought them, actually take them off the children and dispose of them. Theses scrambler bikes should never ever be driven anywhere else expect the designated areas and under strict supervision.
Hopefully we can prevent this sort of tragedy from happening again.”
