Video: US Navy tests unmanned aircraft aboard USS Theodore Roosevelt

The U.S. Navy’s unmanned X-47B aircraft was put to the test on August 17 during a flight in the Atlantic. Captain Beau Duarte, program manager for the Navy’s Unmanned Carrier Aviation office said the aircraft “could take off, land and fly in the carrier pattern with manned aircraft while maintaining normal flight deck operations” and noted the affect this could have on the future of military aviation. The un-piloted plane took off alongside a manned F/A-18 aboard the USS Theodore Roosevelt for an eight minute flight before it executed an arrested landing, folded its wings and moved away from the landing area.
