Heavy showers and thunderstorms have been forecast for Northern Ireland on Tuesday afternoon.

The warm weather, hot in the east, with cooler conditions in the west will lead to showers and possible thunderstorms across the province.

Met Eireann has also issued a yellow thunderstorm warning for parts of the Republic of Ireland which includes Co Donegal.

The Northern Ireland Weather and Flood Advisory Service has warned of the potential for rain localised flooding in some parts, with the worst of the conditions likely to be in Co Down and Co Antrim.

A spokesperson for the service said: “Showers & Thunderstorms are expected to move in off the Irish sea to affect parts of Co Down & Co Antrim this afternoon these may be heavy at times leading to a risk of localised flooding along with the risk of thunder & lightning.

“Other scattered showers & thunderstorms are likely to develop across other parts of NI hence a warning covering all parts for this risk.

“The showers/thunderstorms are likely to be hit and miss with some places remaining dry throughout, although where they do occur you can expect - heavy rainfall, along with possible lightning.”
