Big thrill for US Open winner Rory at Wimbledon.
Golf champ Rory McIlroy rubbed shoulders with royalty and hooked up with a string of past and present tennis legends during a VIP trip to Wimbledon yesterday.
And the 22-year-old US Open winner, who had one of the best seats in the 15,000 capacity Centre Court, described the whole experience as a “big thrill”.
Last night he posted on Twitter a picture of himself and practice partner Harry Diamond with tennis legends Rafael Nadal and Roger Federer.
“Ladies QF day, had to go with a touch of pink! LOL. Roger and Rafa make us look like midgets!” the Holywood golfer joked.
Before taking his place alongside Princess Beatrice in the Royal Box, Rory had enjoyed a tour of the practice courts.
He had to claw his way through a scrum of photographers as three-time Wimbledon champion John McEnroe introduced him to British hopeful Andy Murray.
Murray, who has yet to win a Grand Slam, said he has taken inspiration from McIlroy's maiden major triumph, following his capitulation from a leading position during the Masters just a few weeks earlier.
