Tuesday fashion spy hits the races for a good snoop

By Kerry McKittrick

Our reporter checks out the style at ladies day at Down Royal and finds lots guests with excellent sartorial taste.

Brooke Watson (18)

Student, Lisburn

Wore what? Headpiece, £300 and dress, £200 both from Diamond Dolls; bag, £30, Algoberg; shoes, £70, Irregular Choice.

Why? I like lots of colour although I tend to go for pastels, but it's nice to try something a little different every now and again. I don't like anything with puffy sleeves.

Who? Blake Lively has a really nice easy-going style but Amanda Holden is a little dull for me.

Abi Wolsey (24)

Banker, Belfast

Wore what? Dress, £150, Phase Eight; bag, £20, Debenhams; shoes, £20, Dorothy Perkins; fascinator, handmade by a friend.

Why? Normally my style is quite casual and I like jeans and blazers. I don’t like the trend for short shorts — they let it all hang out too much.

Who? I love Nicole Scherzinger’s style as she looks nicely put together. Lady Gaga is far too out there for my taste.

  • Monthly spend £80

Hannah Farley (22)

Leisure attendant, Cookstown

Wore what? Fascinator, £50, Debenhams; dress, £140, Gorgeous Couture; bag, £300, Mulberry; shoes, £40, Dublin boutique.

Why? I love wearing black with vibrant colours as it really makes them pop. I don't like anything that shows off too much cleavage.

Who? Victoria Beckham and Kate Moss are always well-dressed but Jordan shows off far too much.

  • Monthly spend £200-£300

Gillian Dobbin (38)

Full-time mum, Belfast

Wore what? Fascinator, £22, and bag, £27, both from Accessorize; dress, £20, Kaliko; shoes, £100, LK Bennett.

Why? My style is normally smart casual with a splash of colour. I don’t like people who wear too much make-up and too much fake tan.

Who? Kate Middleton's style is nice and understated but I don’t like the way Jodie Marsh dresses at all.

  • Monthly spend £200

Edel McGarvey (28)

Dentist, Belfast

Wore what? Dress, £120, Coast; hat, £100, Brenda Campbell; bag, £40, Marks & Spencer; shoes, £70, from New Look, then customised.

Why? Normally my style is smart casual and I like the smart shirts with statement necklaces that people are wearing at the moment. I don’t like anything over the top, though. Less is more!

Who? Cheryl Cole wears lovely outfits but I really can't stand the way Miley Cyrus dresses.

  • Monthly spend £100
